Hotel Air Conditioning Retrofits

Hotel air conditioning is a major market sector for TK Air Conditioning and we have undertaken numerous hotel air conditioning projects for Whitbread plc companies.

For Beefeater restaurants we have a rolling programme of R22 replacement, replacing old units with the replacement R410. This programme involves us working closely with our business relationship partner Mitsubishi.

Hotel Air Conditioning – Retrofits

With retrofit air conditioning projects we work in a trading hotel, introducing air conditioning into the existing hotel fabric.

The first such programme we undertook was on a major hotel groups’ Heathrow Airport hotel. This was followed by the retrofitting of air conditioning into a large hotel at the NEC in Birmingham. Here  we retrofitted 200 bedrooms in a 26 week window.

The requirement is to conduct our work without disturbance to the routine of a trading hotel in a 24/7 environment. We will typically take 16 rooms on a Monday morning, returning them on Friday fully decorated, with air conditioning installed ready for the weekend.

Our hotel air conditioning project in a new build hotel in Kidderminster was very different. Here we were working in a converted former mill building. The bottom 2 floors are a Debenhams store and the other 3 are a hotel. Here we were on site for 12 weeks to complete the air conditioning installation.

In addition to the Heathrow and Birmingham NEC retrofits, further large air conditioning retrofits have been completed in Kensington, Southwick & Greenwich.

Hotel Air Conditioning RetrofitsLiaison by Trained Site Supervisors is key

TK Air Conditioning has developed a very strong track record of liaison and completion of successful operations in a hotel environment. We have found that day to day operation liaison is a key factor. To facilitate this key process several members of staff have been trained as site supervisors for these projects.

Air Conditioning Systems Designed for Hotel Retrofit

From a technical perspective, we use ducted units which fit discreetly in the bulk head above the hotel room door. The PEAD-RP15 slimline ducted unit is a compact design, to fit into a shallow ceiling void. These air very adaptable air conditioning units are designed for hotel retrofit. A further practical feature of these units is the simplified controller, which works very well in a hotel environment. The external units are normally fitted on the roof of a new build. For retrofits, they are often located in an unobtrusive compound adjacent to the hotel, due to space and weight restrictions on the roof.
